Cyber Attack Puts Data of Millions of Car Dealership Customer at Risk

Over the last several decades major technological advancements have changed the way people live. With the rise of the internet, smartphone, and other related innovations in this digital realm, the very nature of human life has changed irrevocably. The world is more connected than ever before and it has been easier over these last several years than any other time in the history of the planet and the human species to communicate with people that live thousands of miles away. Truly, one can message someone living halfway across the world in mere seconds. It appears that the world is smaller than it ever has been and that for most people everything is literally at your fingertips. While innovation has definitely had its positives, there are many negative effects. For instance, social media has now become a dominant form of communication for people especially in the younger generations, and social and behavioral problems have persisted as usage of these platforms has increased. Additionally, more people are reporting feeling lonely than ever before.

Another area in which technology has created negatives is that of online shopping, finance and data. Now, records pertaining to people’s personal financial information, banking, home addresses and personal and public records are all stored online. While this is created in terms of organization and accessibility, it also puts people at real risk of identity theft and financial loss. Hackers and people that seek to do wrong have taken advantage of this and many have suffered with the issue of identity theft being common and scamming all the more prevalent especially amongst many elderly adults.

Even automotive sales and the car industry has been a victim of hackers as of late. One firm named CDK Global was recently hacked by hackers and dealerships across the country suffered shut downs and losses. General Motors, one of the largest manufacturers of automotive products in the United States, was a main target.
