Canadian soldiers were caught training for an anti-government militia and plotting to seize territory in Quebec, amassing a disturbing arsenal of explosives, tactical gear, and illegal weapons while operating under the radar for nearly three years.

Terrorists on the Government Payroll
While the Canadian government obsesses over “right-wing extremism,” it turns out actual terrorists were operating within its own military ranks. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have arrested four men, including two active-duty soldiers, for allegedly plotting to create an anti-government militia. The suspects—Marc-Aurèle Chabot, Raphaël Lagacé, Simon Angers-Audet, and Matthew Forbes—were allegedly using their taxpayer-funded military training to plan operations against the very country they swore to protect.
Police described the group as motivated by an “extremist anti-authority, anti-government ideology.” The two soldiers were corporals based at CFB Valcartier near Quebec City, literally collecting government paychecks while allegedly plotting to facilitate terrorist activity.
An Arsenal That Laughs at Gun Laws
A raid on the suspects’ homes in January 2024 uncovered an arsenal that makes a mockery of Canada’s draconian gun laws. Authorities seized 83 firearms, 16 explosive devices, 11,000 rounds of ammunition, 130 high-capacity magazines, night vision goggles, and other military equipment. Many of these items are already banned for law-abiding citizens, proving once again that such laws only disarm the public, not determined criminals.

According to the RCMP, “The three accused were planning to create an anti-government militia. To achieve this, they took part in military-style training, as well as shooting, ambush, survival, and navigation exercises.” They allegedly conducted scouting operations with the goal of establishing an independent community and were recruiting members via a private Instagram group.
Stunning Incompetence on Full Display
What is perhaps most alarming is that this plot continued undetected for nearly three years, from June 2021 until the RCMP was finally tipped off in March 2023. The fact that two active soldiers could engage in such activities for so long highlights a spectacular failure of Canada’s security and intelligence apparatus.
In response, the Department of National Defense stated it is “taking these allegations very seriously,” a claim that rings hollow after its failure to notice the extremists in its own ranks. While these individuals must face justice, this case should serve as a wake-up call for a government that seems more interested in policing the opinions of its citizens than in monitoring credible threats within its own institutions.
