Zac Efron, the Hollywood actor who made his name as a High School Music heartthrob, recently found himself in the hospital after an accident in a swimming pool. During a trip to the party island of Ibiza, Spain, the actor suffered what was described as a “minor swimming injury.”
The accident was confirmed in a photograph shared to his Instagram. In the photo, Efron could be seen exercising, telling his followers that he was “happy and healthy” and that he appreciated all the well wishes. And that was all he said.
Naturally, his followers wanted to know all the details – and TMZ managed to find out what happened. According to reports, Efron dove into a shallow pool while hanging with his friends. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning – so, he was probably partying – and he hit the bottom of the pool with his chest. The shock caused the actor to breathe in a large amount of pool water.
Efron was reportedly in a state of shock as he was lifted out of the pool and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Fans will be pleased to hear that this injury wasn’t as serious as his 2013 accident, which resulted in a broken jaw. Though the accident occurred in a similar way – Efron was horsing around at home, running while wearing socks until he slid into the corner of a granite fountain – it didn’t result in an injury anywhere near as serious. Efron broke his jaw at the time and, over the years, required treatment to fix it. The accident was so serious, reports described at the time, that when he woke up after losing consciousness, his chin bone was completely dislodged from his face.
In April, 2021, the rumor mill exploded, with fans suggesting that he may have undergone plastic surgery. After appearing in an episode of Bill Nye’s “Earth Day Musical” on Facebook, viewers began to question why Efron’s face looked different. The actor eventually responded to the rumors in an interview in September, 2022, with Entertainment Tonight.
Efron said that the rumors were “funny” and described how surgery related to his 2013 accident were the reason why his jaw looked enlarged.
“It was funny. It sucks. I almost died, but we’re good,” Efron said about the incident.
