Speculations about his health have run rampant since President Joe Biden’s poor performance at the first presidential debate.
But, this week, a top neurologist stated that it’s a “fact” that Biden suffers from a degenerative brain condition.
Appearing on NBC this week, New York-based neurologist Dr. Tom Pitts claimed he would be able to “diagnose [Biden] from across the mall.”
Following the disastrous performance, many people have questioned what the mental capacity of the 81-year-old Biden really is. That performance came after many years of allegations surrounding his health, including the fact that he allegedly falls a lot, stumbles over his words and is quite forgetful.
Pitts tried to end that speculation by saying of Biden during his NBC appearance:
“His motor symptoms are degenerating. He has Parkonsinisms. That is a fact. That is a fact. He has degeneration of the brain. Show me the MRI. Show me he doesn’t. Put your money where your mouth is. He definitely has it.”
Parkinsonisms is essentially an umbrella term that some use to describe a bevy of degenerative brain conditions that include Parkinson’s Disease.
In the wake of the debate, the White House has vehemently denied that the president has any cognitive issues. Karine Jean-Pierre, the press secretary for the White House, said this week that Biden hasn’t been treated for Parkinson’s, despite the fact that a known Parkinson’s expert has visited the White House multiple times over the last year.
She would only say that the president has been examined by a neurologist three times in his time in the White House as part of his annual medical check-ups.
The NBC hosts questioned Pitts about what he thought regarding Biden’s condition. Pitts is an expert in the arena, as he’s a board certified specialist in New York and is a graduate of Columbia University.
He doesn’t appear to have expertise in Parkinson’s disease, though, at least according to his LinkedIn profile. The Daily Mail reported that Pitts describes his areas of expertise as multiple sclerosis, headaches and some other brain-related conditions.
Still, Pitts is convinced that Biden has Parkinson’s disease. As he said during his appearance:
“It’s ironic because he has just these classic features of neurodegeneration: word-finding difficulties — and that’s not just, ‘Oh, I could find the right word’ — that’s from degeneration of the word retrieval area.”
Pitts said he’s never personally examined Biden, but said the things the president showed during the debate are very common among people who have that condition.
As he said:
“You notice when he turns it’s kind of end-block turning; it’s not a quick turn. That’s one of the hallmarks of Parkinson’s; it’s rigidity and bradykinesia, slow movement.
“And he has that hallmark, especially with the low voice they said was a cold; hypophonia, small monotone voice like this over time is a hallmark of Parkinsonism. I could have diagnosed him from across the mall.”
These aren’t issues related to overcoming a stutter as a young man, either, he claimed. Pitts explained:
“This is not a palatial issue or a speech discrepancy. Plus, the rigidity, monotone voice. … His motor symptoms are degenerating. He has Parkinsonisms. That is a fact.”
