Over the last several years, the political, social, and cultural environment in the United States has grown increasingly polarized, divisive and toxic. Indeed, following the 2016 election in which the former reality TV star and real estate business mogul from New York City Donald Trump achieved victory and became the 45th president of the United States the political climate has soured considerably. At times, it has appeared that the entire American entertainment industry – including Hollywood and the majority of music artists and producers have united in vocal opposition against Donald Trump and his political allies. Even after Trump lost the 2020 election, the extremely negative views espoused by these people have continued to be projected. Recently, the music artist Cher made headlines after claiming that she would leave America for good if Trump managed to win the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
Truthfully, when a popular artist who has made their vast fortune and livelihood solely off of the unrivaled opportunities the United States provides to individuals in the industry threatens to leave the country if a political election does not go the way they would like, it should raise concerns. Patriotism is support of the country and the nation itself, through thick and thin, even if an individual does not agree with the political trajectory or governing decisions of the country. America’s elitist should rest easy, though, according to one Democratic Senator. Chris Coons from Delaware claimed the party should perform well in 2024 despite President Bidens historically low approval ratings.
Not every Democrat shares his optimism. On MSNBC, Joy Reid claimed that “rich, white” Americans (people who make up the bulk of the Democratic voting base) were abandoning Biden and showed anger. She claimed that people should not be criticizing their party leader in true lockstep fashion, and basically proved she and her network are nothing more than a propaganda mouthpiece for political operatives on the extreme far left.
