Melania Trump is known for keeping a fairly low profile during her time as first lady, and she has only recently begun appearing in connection with her husband Donald’s presidential campaign.
But the former first lady is speaking out on social media in a series of videos asking what really happened in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13. That was the day would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks got on top of a roof with no FBI agents and took shots at President Trump with a clear line of sight. Trump was grazed in the ear by a bullet, but firefighter and husband and father Corey Comperatore was killed as he threw his body in front of his family to protect them.
In a video uploaded to the social media platform X, Melania said there are too many unanswered questions about the assassination attempt and that it is time to “uncover the truth.” She called July 13 a “horrible, distressing experience,” and said that “the silence around it feels heavy.” Indeed, the remarkable event seemed to fall off the mainstream media’s “news cycle” just days after the shooting.
In the video, Melania points to the fact that rally goers had alerted police on the ground and Secret Service agents that a suspicious-looking Crooks had seemed to be casing the rally site for hours before he started firing. She asked why police did not arrest the man before her husband took the stage, and said “There is definitely more to the story.”
The aftermath of the assassination attempt looked like nothing most Americans had ever seen. Not only did the Secret Service fail to place snipers on the roof of a building that anyone could see provided a clear path to the stage, but former Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle gave a ridiculous excuse for this. Since the roof was slanted, she said, there were concerns about the safety of personnel. Cheatle resigned in disgrace a few days later.
Several other reports confirmed that police or SS agents took Crooks’ picture at least twice before the shooting, and local police had reported him as a suspicious person.
Melania Trump’s videos online are in support of her new memoir, titled “Melania,” that will be released soon.
