An illegal alien has been charged with the murder of a 21-year-old woman in New York. Ecuadorian Jhon Moises Chacaguasay-Ilbis is charged with second-degree murder and the concealment of a human corpse over the death of fellow Ecuadorian Joselyn Jhoana Toaquiza in Syracuse. The young woman’s body was found near Lincoln Park, and Chacaguasay-Ilbis subsequently turned himself over to police.
Media reports indicate that the victim and her alleged killer attended school together in Ecuador and he had journeyed to the New York city to help her celebrate her 21st birthday. Prosecutor Alphonse Williams said Chacaguasay-Ilbis was staying at an Airbnb facility across the street from Lincoln Park, and he hid her body there after smothering her to death.
Video footage shows Chacaguasay-Ilbis entering the Airbnb accommodation with the victim on June 18. Three hours later, he is seen leaving the building with the woman on his back with her arms and legs wrapped around him. It is unclear if she was dead at that point.
Prosecutor Williams told reporters that the Airbnb owner informed police he found blood in the building and that Chacaguasay-Ilbis returned to the home, changed his clothes, and swiftly left. He then reportedly bought a bus ticket to New York City before turning himself over to police in Rock County.
The murder prompted enraged Republicans to demand a review of the Empire State’s “sanctuary” status. Assemblyman John Lemondes said the killing was the “direct result” of Democrat policies implemented by former Governor Andrew Cuomo and continued by Governor Kathy Hochul. “Until we recognize this crisis for what it is, we will continue to see tragedies like this,” he said.
The murder is the latest in a string of serious offenses committed by illegal immigrants in the US this year. In Texas in recent weeks, two immigrants were accused of murdering a 12-year-old girl, and Victor Martinez Hernandez was charged with murder and rape following his alleged attack on 37-year-old mom Rachel Morin in Maryland.
