Grim Details Revealed in Murder of Australian Couple in Phillippines

Authorities in the Philippines have charged a former hotel employee with the murder of an Australian couple and a cousin while on vacation there, claiming that he wanted to get back at his former employers for firing him.

Tragically, the bodies of David Fisk and his wife Lucita Cortez, 57 and 55, respectively, and Mary Jane Cortez, 30, (their daughter-in-law) were discovered at The Lake Hotel in Tagaytay, Cavite province, southwest of Manila. Fisk and Cortez are Australian citizens with Filipino ancestry,

The trio’s failure to check out of their room on July 10th prompted hotel workers to make the discovery.

According to reports, the three victims were discovered facedown, with their limbs bound and tape covering their lips.

At 1:38 a.m. on Wednesday, Charles Daven M. Capagcuan, chief of police in Tagaytay, announced that a man had surrendered to police in connection with the killings.

Former hotel employee 33-year-old “Ronel” was named in a complaint from the Cavite Police Provincial Office.

The investigators said that the suspect’s vengeance against the hotel’s management for terminating his employment was the driving force for the terrible killings of the victims.

Ronel had been the hotel’s pool cleaner.

A man with a hooded jacket, black face mask, sunglasses, and handcuffs was seen on surveillance footage.

After police arrived at the suspect’s residence in the Batangas province, close to Tagaytay, on Tuesday evening, Capagcuan revealed that the suspect surrendered to the authorities.

According to Capagcuan, three or more hotel staff members were able to identify the criminal using footage shot by the property’s security cameras.

According to reports, the suspect is expected to face charges of murder and robbery. He is said to have confessed to removing Mr. Fisk’s shoes and watch after the attack.

The government of the Philippines will cover the costs of the funeral and burial for both ladies; Mr. Fisk’s remains will be returned to Sydney.
