When a father in Texas decided to log on to his son’s day care for a check-in on July 27, 2023, the shocking sight he was greeted with sent him dashing to the facility to protect his two year-old boy.
The facility is now facing a lawsuit seeking damages upwards of a million dollars.
According to a report on local media outlet KVUE, the father, whose name is being withheld from the press at this time, logged into the livestream served up by The Children’s Courtyard to see live video of an ironically-titled “caregiver” pressing a pillow over his son’s face in an attempt to silence the toddler during a scheduled nap time. Then, when the boy did not calm down, the caregiver is said to have pulled off the child’s covers and slapped him repeatedly in the face.
After the father arrived at the Austin facility and confronted staff about what he’d witnessed, he was dismayed to learn that the daycare facility never filed any of the required reports regarding the abuse—neither with local law enforcement, nor with state officials.
Management officials at The Children’s Courtyard facility allegedly told the parents of the victimized boy that the employee who attacked their son would be suspended from her job as a penalty for her actions.
Suspended from work…for one day.
Alexis Dominguez, the little boy’s mother, is now seeking one million dollars in compensatory damages for the emotional and physical injuries suffered by her son.
In the lawsuit filing, she claims that the video footage showed that her toddler was trying to defend himself from the blows from his caregiver, by raising his hands and arms to cover his face. However, the slaps were so hard that they pushed the boy’s body back and forth each time a blow landed.
In response to the lack of action on the part of the facility, Dominguez and the child’s father eventually withdrew their son and reported the facility to the authorities.
