In September, a chilling investigation began when Steven Valle allegedly confessed to killing two children and burning their remains in a fire pit. Authorities were alerted after Valle made the shocking admission to a friend during a night of drinking, claiming both children had been killed, one by smothering and the other by drowning. The couple, Valle and Sebella, denied ever having children besides their 4-year-old, who had no birth certificate or government records due to an undocumented home birth.
Police investigated their former residence in Wheatfield, Indiana, using cadaver dogs that led them to a fire pit where bone fragments were found. Court documents show that the fragments were identified as human remains, prompting the arrest of both Valle and Sebella. Further investigation revealed incriminating text messages between the couple, where they discussed the deaths and the burning of the bodies.
Valle later admitted to officers that Sebella had given birth to their first child in 2018, and after the infant’s death, he buried the body in their yard. A similar fate befell their second child, who died shortly after birth. Both children were buried for three to five years before Valle exhumed the bodies and burned them in the fire pit, even keeping some ashes to make a necklace as a keepsake.
Authorities also discovered that Valle and Sebella had a history of domestic violence. Sebella did not take any steps to protect their children or herself, nor did she report the deaths or subsequent burial and burning of the bodies. As the investigation continues, both parents face multiple charges, including murder, neglect of a dependent, and abuse of a corpse. They are currently being held without bond at the Jasper County Detention Center.
